Your help centre needs an address before visitors can reach it. The one you choose goes in every link you share, every Google result, and the widget's built-in "See all articles" button — so it's worth taking a moment to pick carefully.
What is the public Help Centre address?
Every Chattering help centre is served at a URL you define:
chattering.ai/help/s/<your-slug>
The <your-slug> part is yours to choose. Most teams use a short form of their product or company name — acme or acme-help, something a customer could type from memory. The slug appears in browser tabs, in search results, and in any link a customer copies from your articles.
Until you claim a slug, your help centre exists but isn't publicly reachable. The articles you've written are saved, but there's no URL for customers to visit.
Before you start
You don't need a paid plan. Claiming a help centre address is available on all Chattering plans, including free.
What you do need:
- An active Chattering workspace with at least one agent set up
- Owner or Admin access on the workspace — Members can view the Deploy tab but cannot save changes to it
If you haven't created an agent yet, open AI agents in the left rail and set one up first. The help centre address lives on an agent, so you need at least one before the option appears.
How to claim your address
- Open AI agents in the left rail and click the agent you want the help centre to belong to. Most workspaces have one agent — if you have several, pick the one whose knowledge base matches the content you've published.
- Click the Deploy tab at the top of the agent page.
- Scroll down to the Public help center address section. You'll see the prefix
chattering.ai/help/s/followed by a text field. - Type the slug you want. The field automatically lowercases what you type and strips anything that isn't a letter, digit, or hyphen.
- Click Save settings.
The URL goes live within seconds of saving. If you see an error that the address is already taken, try a variation — adding your product category or a short suffix usually finds one that's free.
Slug rules
The field enforces these automatically:
- Lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens only — no spaces, underscores, or other punctuation
- Between 3 and 40 characters total
- Must start and end with a letter or digit, not a hyphen
What happens after you save
As soon as the slug is saved, several things happen without any extra steps on your part:
The URL goes live. Visiting chattering.ai/help/s/<your-slug> shows your published articles right away. Unpublished drafts stay hidden — only articles you've explicitly published appear.
The widget links to it. The widget's "See all articles" button starts pointing to your help centre. You don't need to change the widget snippet or redeploy anything on your site.
The AI can cite your articles. Chattering's AI links customers to specific articles as part of its answers, but only once a public URL exists. Without a slug, citations are title-only — no link.
Search engines can index it. The help centre generates a sitemap and sets canonical URL metadata. Google typically picks it up within a few days of the address being claimed.
Changing the slug later
You can update the slug at any time by returning to the Deploy tab, editing the field, and saving again.
The catch: changing the slug breaks every link that pointed to the old one — bookmarks customers saved, any articles or forum posts linking to your help centre, and URLs Google has already indexed. There's no automatic redirect from the old address to the new one.
If you do need to change it, update every link you control (your website, email templates, any marketing materials) before or right after the switch, and accept that external links will go dead. For most teams, choosing the right slug upfront is the better path.
