Answering email as well as chat

Every agent has its own address.

Chattering receives email. Mail sent to your agent's address becomes a conversation, the AI answers from the same knowledge it uses in chat, and the reply threads properly in the customer's mail client.

Your address

Each agent has one, shown in its settings, in the form in+<key>@inbound.chattering.ai. Forward your existing support address to it, or publish it directly.

Sent automatically, or checked first: your choice

By default the AI answers each email by itself, the same way it answers chat, and the reply goes out without anyone on your team touching it.

If you would rather read replies before they go, untick Let the AI answer email automatically on your agent's Deploy tab. Mail then waits in your inbox, and the Assist panel (AI Draft, on Pro) writes a reply from your own content for you to edit and send.

Either way, once someone on your team replies in a conversation, the AI stops answering it until you choose Let the AI reply.

What arrives

The subject becomes the conversation title. Quoted history and signatures are stripped before the AI reads the message, so it answers the actual question rather than the thread beneath it.

Loop protection

Auto-replies, out-of-office messages and mailing-list traffic are filed but never answered — an auto-replying inbox that answers an auto-reply is how sending domains get burned. If one conversation somehow produces six AI replies in an hour, it is handed to a human instead of continuing.
