When you first sign in to Chattering, you land on the dashboard. It's the control room for every customer conversation, whether those conversations come through your chat widget, email, or any connected integration. Support agents use it daily; managers check it for trends; anyone setting up the product for the first time should spend a few minutes here before doing anything else.
The left rail is the whole product. From the top:
- Inbox — every conversation, from the widget and from email. This is where you read and reply. You can filter by status (open, snoozed, closed), by assignee, or by source, and the AI's suggested reply sits in the composer waiting for your approval or a quick edit. When a conversation needs a human, you take it over with one click and the AI steps back.
- Tickets — a board for work that needs tracking rather than a reply. Think bugs, feature requests, or internal tasks that outlive the original conversation. Tickets have statuses, assignees, and priorities; they live separately from the Inbox so your conversation queue stays clean.
- Feedback — the public roadmap: requests, votes, comments and your changelog. Customers submit ideas through the widget; your team triages them here and publishes a changelog entry when something ships. It doubles as a community signal — the most-voted items tell you where to focus next.
Then the lower group:
- AI agents — your agents and everything they have read. Each agent has a knowledge base you can inspect: the articles, URLs, and documents it was trained on. You can add new sources, retrain on updated content, and review conversations where the agent handed off to a human to understand where it got stuck.
- Help center — write and publish articles; also where AI drafts and content gaps land. The AI flags questions it could not answer and drafts article stubs from real conversations. You review, edit, and publish. Once live, those articles feed back into the AI's knowledge base automatically.
- Reports — real medians and volumes from your conversations. You'll see first reply time, resolution time, AI containment rate, and conversation volume over any time window. Filter by agent, channel, or tag to diagnose slow spots or see which team members need support.
- Contacts — the people and leads the widget has captured. Each contact record shows their conversation history, any properties your widget collected (name, email, company), and the events they triggered if you've set up event tracking. You can search, filter, and export.
- Settings — account, plan and usage, data and privacy. This is where you add teammates, configure the widget's appearance and behavior, manage integrations, and review your monthly usage. You can also set business hours, auto-assignment rules, and notification preferences here.
Overview (the front door, via your avatar) shows the last 14 days: volume, how much the AI handled, median first reply, and the questions your docs could not answer.
Key actions from the dashboard
Starting a conversation is as simple as opening the Inbox and clicking the compose icon — you'll send a proactive message to any existing contact. Viewing conversation history means clicking any thread; the full exchange, including AI turns, is right there with timestamps. To manage your settings, go to Settings in the left rail — from there you can invite teammates, update your widget colors, and connect integrations like Slack or Jira. Integrations live under Settings > Integrations; once connected, events fire into your other tools automatically.
Getting started quickly
The fastest path: install the widget snippet (Settings > Installation), send yourself a test message, and reply from the Inbox. That single loop confirms your widget is live, your Inbox is working, and you know how replies feel from a customer's perspective. Then visit the Help center and publish your first article — even a short FAQ counts — because the AI reads it immediately and starts using it in responses.
Getting help from within the dashboard
The chat widget on every page of Chattering connects you to Chattering's own support team. Click the bubble in the corner and type your question; the AI handles most how-to questions instantly, and a human takes over for anything more complex. The Help center at chattering.ai/help is also public, so you can search it directly. For anything account-specific — billing, data exports, custom plans — use the widget and ask for a human; that's the fastest path to someone who can act on it.
Quick keyboard shortcuts
Inside the dashboard, a few keyboard shortcuts speed up daily work. Press G then I to jump to the Inbox from anywhere. Press G then H to jump to Help center. Press C to open the compose window and start a new outbound conversation. These are not documented in the UI itself — they are there for anyone who spends hours in the inbox every day.
