About Chattering.ai

By

Chattering.ai was built to solve a real problem: small support teams drown in repeat questions while their help content sits unused. We built an AI support agent that answers customers directly from your website and docs, cites its sources, and hands the hard questions to your team with full context.

What Chattering Does

Chattering is an AI support platform for teams that want to give fast, accurate answers without hiring a large support staff. Point it at your website. It reads your pages and help articles, then answers visitor questions in a chat widget on your site. Every answer includes the source it came from, so you and your customers can verify it.

When the AI can't answer — because the topic isn't in your content, or the customer needs human judgment — it hands the conversation to your team with the full thread and the sources it already tried. Your team picks up where the AI left off, without asking the customer to repeat anything.

Who It's For

Chattering is built for small software companies with tiny support teams. If you're a founder still answering tickets yourself, or a two-person team trying to keep up with customer questions while also shipping product, Chattering is designed around that reality.

It works well for any team that has existing written content — a docs site, a help center, a set of FAQ pages — and wants that content to do more work automatically. It's not the right fit if you have almost no written content yet, or if your questions are so case-by-case that no help article could ever address them. But for the common pattern — a dozen or more repeat questions that could be answered by something you already wrote — it tends to handle a large share of inbound volume on its own.

We've seen it work for SaaS companies, developer tools, e-commerce businesses, and agencies that manage support for multiple clients. The common thread is a small team with more incoming questions than they have time to answer manually.

Why We Built It

Most support tools were designed for large teams with dedicated agents. Small SaaS companies don't have that luxury. The founder answers tickets between shipping features. We wanted to build something that lets a team of two or three handle the support load of a team ten times their size, without sacrificing quality.

That means honest AI — the kind that says "I don't know" instead of making something up, and shows you where every answer came from so you can trust it.

How It Works

Setup takes under ten minutes. You give Chattering the URL of your website or docs, and it crawls the content automatically. Once it has indexed your pages, you add a small script tag to your site and the chat widget appears.

When a visitor asks a question, the AI searches the indexed content, finds the most relevant sections, and writes an answer based on what it found — not from general internet knowledge, only from your content. Every response shows the specific pages it drew from, so customers can click through and read more if they want the full context.

If the question falls outside what your content covers, or if the visitor asks for a person, the conversation transfers to your shared inbox. Your team sees the full exchange, which sources the AI checked, and whether it found anything useful before handing off. You can reply right where the AI left off without the customer having to re-explain anything.

Conversations and help articles live in the same system. When your team writes a reply that covers a new topic, they can publish it as a help article with one click. That article gets indexed automatically, so the AI can answer the same question the next time without anyone having to step in.

Our Approach

We keep the product simple on purpose. One inbox for chat and email. One help center that the AI reads from. One feedback portal where customers can vote on what gets built next. Each piece makes the others better: a resolved conversation becomes a drafted help article, and that article makes the AI smarter the next time someone asks the same question.

What Makes It Different

Most AI support tools try to sound confident even when they're guessing. Chattering doesn't do that. If the answer isn't in your content, the AI says so and routes to a human rather than generating something plausible but wrong. That's a deliberate design choice: a confident wrong answer damages trust more than a quick handoff to a person does.

The citation system matters for the same reason. Every AI answer links back to the specific pages it used. Your customers can see exactly where the information came from and go read the original source. That transparency also helps you catch outdated content — when a customer flags an answer as wrong, you can usually trace it back to a help article that needs updating.

We also think about how support conversations feed back into the product. When the AI can't answer a question, that gap is logged. Over time, those gaps tell you what topics your help content is missing. Most support tools treat each ticket as an isolated transaction. We treat it as information about what your documentation needs to say.
